Letter: Shaw brings accountability to the schools

Letter: Shaw brings accountability to the schools

Oct 15, 2019

To the editor:

We have known Janie Shaw and her family since our sons were together at the Edina Family Center and encourage the community to vote for Janie Shaw for Edina Schools on Nov. 5.
Under Janie’s leadership both the Highlands Elementary and South View Middle School PTOs were wonderful support organizations for students, teachers and families. At South View, she demonstrated her superior organizational and fundraising skills, doubling membership and parent PTO participation, while also doubling the funds raised to help teachers and students in the classroom.

Janie is a community builder. We value her thoughtful interactions with all stakeholders involved in the education of our children, as well as her interactions with local business and community leaders. She leads with mutual respect, earning the trust of teachers, parents, and administrators. Janie not only hears, but she listens. Then she takes action.
Importantly, Janie also offers the sensibility of a businessperson. She will demonstrate fiscal responsibility and careful oversight of our district’s crucial, and often limited, resources. She is an innovator, and will look for more ways to build new revenue streams. And, most of all, she will hold herself, and her colleagues, to a level of trusted accountability, while also focusing on the continued academic excellence for each unique student.
Please join us in voting for Janie Shaw on Nov. 5.
